Yard Manager – Maldon, Essex

First Call Contract Services are hiring on behalf of the UK’s leading timber supplier. The client operates over multiple sites nationwide. We are currently looking to hire a Yard Manager for the site in Maldon, Essex.

We are looking for someone with previous managerial experience, but not necessarily experience within the Timber industry.

This is an amazing opportunity for an ambitious individual, who is looking to progress their career.

This role will be a varied role, you will have to complete jobs from picking timber in the yard to working alongside the client’s senior accountants. You will be responsible for managing 20 employees who will report to you.

The Yard Managers Core Duties are to actively manage and take ownership of the yard function, ensuring it runs as a safe, well organised and correctly resourced operation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To ensure the yard is running efficiently, at optimum rates and that unnecessary downtime is minimised
  • Ensuring you liaise with the logistics and planning team and allocate the workloads correctly
  • Plan and organise the daily yard activities including; management of the loading bays, delivery, shipment, vehicle movements etc
  • Organising all stock takes and stock turnover
  • General management of your team to ensure they are completing their duties effectively and in line with SOP’s
  • To undertake projects when requested
  • Authorise holiday requests, monitor absence and complete return to work interviews, along with disciplinary and grievance procedures
