Shifts for Waste Minimisation and Sustainability Supervisor:
- 07:00 – 15:00, Monday to Friday
- 37 hours per week
Pay:
- £16.21 per hour
- Paid weekly for the first six months
- This is a temp to perm opportunity, with excellent prospects of transitioning to a permanent contract after 6 months, depending on performance
Main Duties of Waste Minimisation and Sustainability Supervisor:
- Responsibility for the supervision of the Waste Minimisation and Sustainability team to include team meetings, regular one to ones and coaching and mentoring the team to reach their full potential and motivation.
- To manage workloads and allocate work ensuring the provision of high-quality services that are responsive to change and embrace best practice
- Supervise and coordinate the Council’s waste minimisation and recycling efforts with a strong focus on public engagement and education. Lead initiatives to educate residents and schools on waste reduction, recycling and sustainability, thereby driving behavioural change to increase recycling rates and help achieve Braintree District’s recycling targets
- Lead the team in developing and delivering an ongoing schedule of projects, utilising established research and data trends, encompassing both national and internal initiatives, to educate a wide range of residents to promote a culture of sustainability and continuous improvement
- Coordinate the collection of recycling performance data analysis for the district. Assist the Technical Officer in tracking key metrics such as recycling rates, contamination levels, participation in programs, etc. on an ongoing basis
- Update performance management systems to report progress against Council targets. Ensure data handling complies with GDPR and that all reporting is completed accurately and on time
- Contribute towards the design and presenting of waste minimisation projects that advance the Council’s environmental objectives. This includes planning campaigns, such as food waste reduction, composting promotion and plastics reduction and new recycling initiatives, using approved project management tools to ensure on time, on budget delivery
- Serve as a key liaison for the Council on waste minimisation matters. Collaborate with local, regional and national bodies on joint recycling incentive projects, ensuring good partnership working and representing Braintree’s interests
- Maintain a strong customer service orientation in all waste and recycling services. Regularly seek feedback from residents, schools, and local businesses about the Council’s waste services and educational outreach. Use this data, along with complaints or service requests, to drive continuous improvement in the way services are delivered
Key desirable skills and experience:
- Proven experience in coordinating or supervising teams and projects is required
- A track record of data analysis and reporting to stakeholders is beneficial, given the role’s performance monitoring aspect
- Experience of building and managing partnerships and collaborative relationships
- Experience of establishing and maintaining excellent customer relationships and negotiated solutions to problems
- Strong communication and presentation skills are critical. Must be able to engage effectively with residents of all ages, school audiences, and colleagues across the council
- Must be adept at translating technical waste/recycling information into clear, motivating messages for the public
- Organisational and project management skills are needed to manage community events, educational sessions, and reporting
- The role also demands creative problem-solving and the ability to “think outside the box” to devise innovative local solutions for waste reduction
- Excellent accuracy within complex ICT systems, both at data level and system development level and the ability to analyse business requirements and adapt technology to meet these requirements
